The Department of Gastroenterology is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of major digestive diseases such as upper and lower gastrointestinal tract, liver and pancreas, and biliary tract diseases.
Gastrointestinal tract: responsible for digestion, absorption and excretion of food
Liver: responsible for overall body metabolism
Pancreas, biliary tract: responsible for secretion and regulation of digestive enzymes
The Department of Gastroenterology subdivides digestive diseases and provides specialized treatment for diseases of the esophagus, stomach,
duodenum, small intestine, large intestine, liver, pancreas, biliary tract, and gallbladder. We operate a disease center to treat patients.
We Treat patients with all gastrointestinal cancers, including gastric cancer, colon cancer, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, and biliary tract cancer,
which are the major cancers in Korea. Centering on the Department of Gastroenterology, we have established a multidisciplinary treatment system
with all related departments such as surgery, radiology, oncology, and radiation oncology to provide prompt and best treatment. In addition, by opening
the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center, we are building the nation’s best treatment and treatment system.
In particular, the Department of Gastroenterology, equipped with cutting-edge technology and the best medical staff, including spyglass (biliary
endoscopy), introduced for the first time in Korea in 2016, is contributing to the development of domestic medical care by conducting various research
as well as recovering health through treatment of patients’ diseases.
Upper gastrointestinal tract
Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, and capsule endoscopy are performed to diagnose diseases of the esophagus, stomach,
and small intestine, and endoscopic resection of gastric polyps and adenomas, early esophageal cancer, and early gastric cancer. In addition, various
therapeutic endoscopes are being performed, including stent insertion for esophageal/gastric/duodenal strictures, endoscopic hemostasis for upper
gastrointestinal bleeding, and endoscopic percutaneous gastrostomy for enteral nutrition.
Lower gastrointestinal tract
Colonoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, capsule endoscopy, and enteroscopy are performed for the diagnosis of small intestine and colon diseases.
Endoscopic resection of colon polyps and early colorectal cancer, stent insertion for colon obstruction, endoscopic hemostasis for lower
gastrointestinal bleeding, etc. A therapeutic endoscopy is being performed. In particular, the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center provides same-day treatment and endoscopy for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis patients, and improves the quality of treatment through cooperation with the Department of Surgery and Radiology.
